โครงการประชุมวิชาการนานาชาติ International Interdisciplinary Conference 2019 |
ที่มาและความสำคัญ : |
Over the past 40 years, the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia, Mahidol University, has conducted research on linguistic and cultural issues from a humanistic social perspective by adopting a broad-disciplinary approach, with a special focus on research for the promotion, conservation and revitalization of ethnic groups. Our research projects are outstanding and have been recognized at the local, national, and international levels, such as the project "Implementation of Pattani-Malay-Thai mother-tongue-based multilingual education in Thailand's deep south" which received the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize in 2016. It is an innovative project that leads to sustainable social development and helps children achieve literacy. Its research outcomes meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the educational policy of the Thai government.
The Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia (RILCA) is committed to fulfilling Mahidol University's mission to become a world leading institution, renowned for its excellence in health, art, and innovation, based on the moral foundations of Thai society for the benefit of all humanity. Therefore, our institute endeavors to promote research projects that target the needs of a plural society.
UNESCO has declared 2019 the "International Year of Indigenous Languages", with the objective of raising awareness to the urgent need to preserve, revitalize, and promote indigenous languages around the world. Significantly, 2019 is also the 50th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN, a multicultural community comprising a rich and diverse mix of ethnicities, languages, cultures and religions. With Thailand set to host a meeting of ASEAN members to commemorate this milestone, an ideal opportunity arises to simultaneously host an international Interdisciplinary conference entitled "On the move: Indigenous knowledge, Language and Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy in Asia and Beyond". This conference will be an open space to both national and international academics (including local communities) providing them with an opportunity to meet, and exchange knowledge, and explore areas of potential joint research on language and culture for sustainable development.
Conference themes and panels include:
1. Indigenous knowledge, documentation and preservation
2. Interdisciplinary issues on languages and cultures, ethnobotanical knowledge and well-being
3. Tourism and creative economy in Asia and beyond

วัตถุประสงค์ของการจัดงาน : |
1. To create a learning exchange space for the academic community at local, national, and international levels. They will have the opportunity to meet, talk, and exchange knowledge which is beneficial to continue research on indigenous languages and cultures in ASEAN and beyond.
2. To develop an academic cooperation network among local, national, and international scholars and institutions.
3. To promote and encourage the educational and research potential of researchers and students proactively through the exchange of learning from the international conference.
4. To promote research outputs globally.

There were 68 participates of 8 different nationalities who joined in this conference. They included professors and experts from 8 countries, such as United Kingdom, India, Philippines, Japan, People's Republic Of China, Myanmar, Fiji and Thailand some of whom served a guest speakers and moderators. For evaluation, a questionnaire was used to gauge the degree of satisfaction of participants. The questionnaire included closed-end questions (5 point scale) and open-ended questions. In total, 10 completed questionnaires were returned. The average mean scores of participants were converted into the participants’ satisfaction level as follows:
- Mean scores 1.00 - 1.49 = Very Poor
- Mean scores 1.50 – 2.49 = Poor
- Mean scores 2.50 - 3.49 = Okay
- Mean scores 3.50 - 4.49 = Good
- Mean scores 4.50 - 5.00 = Excellent
This questionnaire covers 6 aspects for which the participants’ satisfaction was graded namely: (1) overall of conference, (2) venue, (3) program schedule (4) plenary sessions (5) parallel sessions (6) conference website. The results of this evaluation were as follows:

It would have been a little more helpful it the central issue of this conference was specifically language documentation even though the innovative vision was the key concept and practice of interdisciplinary collaboration. |
