Course description


The philosophy of the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Language and Intercultural Communication is centered around cultivating doctoral candidates with a profound understanding of language and intercultural communication. The program aims to equip them with the capacity to generate new knowledge and propose innovative approaches. By integrating and applying knowledge from intercultural communication and other disciplines within the humanities and social sciences, the program seeks to contribute to the advancement of a harmonious, equitable society in the 21st century. It endeavors to address conflicts and foster sustainable peace. This commitment aligns with the overarching aspiration of Mahidol University, which strives for comprehensive wisdom and holistic development.

Course Highlights
  • Build leaders of change by applying and integrating analytical and synthetic thinking theory and skills for advanced multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research in language and intercultural communication. The program focuses on research and innovation that impacts policy, economic and social development in order to enhance the quality of life of mankind amid a volatile society and multilingual and cultural diversity.

Regular Program : 50,000 THB per semester

Special Program : 70,000 THB per semester

Remark : The expenditure is the same for all study plans, both for Thai and international students.

Accepting both Thai students and international students who meet the guidelines of the graduate school.

Criteria for application

  1. IELTS 3.0
  2. TOEFL-iBT 32
  3. MU GRAD PLUS (MU GRAD TEST + SPEAKING) 40
  4. MU GRAD TEST 40

*Candidate must have a minimum English language score to apply. (for cases where there are no score, it will depend on consideration by the course committee)
**Non-Thai students must have Thai language test results according to the criteria set by the Graduate School.

Plan 1.1 (thesis only)Plan 2.1 (coursework and thesis)
  1. Completed a master's degree program in any field from a higher education institution accredited by the Office of the Higher Education Commission.
  2. Achieved a cumulative grade point average of not less than 3.50.
  3. Has English language scores that meet the criteria set by the Graduate School.
  4. In the case of foreign applicants, must have qualifications in accordance with the minimum Thai language proficiency standard guidelines for foreigners who come to study in the Thai language graduate program at Mahidol University.
  5. Have experience in conducting research in intercultural communication for not less than 2 years and has at least 1 academic work published in a national or international academic journal, following the announcement of the Higher Education Commission regarding criteria for considering academic journals for the publication of academic works. The applicant must be the first author or corresponding author.
  6. Those whose qualifications differ from those specified in Items 2.-4. may be considered for admission at the discretion of the program committee and the Dean of the Graduate School.
