COURSE NAME : MASTER OF ARTS PROGRAM IN LINGUISTICS


Course description


This course provides critical thinking skills for linguistics and linguistics issues to facilitate the integration of linguistics with other fields of study, as well as to be able to present guidelines for development and solving social problems related to language and culture by using field research methods in both real and virtual spaces. The objective is to enhance understanding of diversity in society in the context of linguistic and cultural pluralism in Asia, by producing graduates knowledgable in linguistics and multiculturalism based on applied research. Students learn to apply new knowledge to their studies and research in other academic fields in order to develop and solve social problems related to language using a moral and ethical approach that will enhance the happiness of mankind.

Course Highlights
  • Course content is up-to-date, covering the theory of linguistics and applied linguistics. Students can choose from a variety of specializations such as language technology, linguistics for sustainable education development, linguistics theories and schools of thought, and language and linguistics. Students can also choose to study in multidisciplinary topics.

  • The curriculum is flexible. It can be adjusted to suit both students and instructors in the form of a hybrid classroom.

  • The program encourages students to have direct experience in conducting research in languages and linguistics with guidance from instructors.
  • There is an opportunity for students to participate in foreign exchange programs.
  • There is an opportunity to exchange knowledge and keep abreast of research trends in language and linguistics with local and international experts.
  • Graduates will acquire knowledge related to digital technology for language research analysis. They will become skilled at using online media to keep up with current situations and disruptions in the society. They will develop communication skills in English which will be a useful tool to exchange knowledge and present research results on the national and international levels.

*Applicants with no English language scores or scores that do not meet the minimum criteria for admission are eligible to apply.
**Non-Thai students must have Thai language test results according to the criteria set by the Graduate School.

  1. Be a graduate or expect to graduate before the start of the semester with a bachelor's degree in a field related to linguistics from a higher education institution accredited by the Office of the Higher Education Commission.
  2. Have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 2.50.
  3. Have passed the English language test according to the criteria specified by the Graduate School at Mahidol University.
  4. Individuals with knowledge of the local language, ethnic language, or one of the languages of neighboring countries will be given special consideration.
  5. Applicants with qualifications other than the above criteria may be considered for admission at the discretion of the Program Chair and the Dean of the Graduate School.

  6. Applicants with qualifications other than the above criteria may have their applications considered for admission at the discretion of the Program Chair and the Dean of the Graduate School.
