RILCA Talk: Revitalizing Music Education for a Global World: Toward Culturally Diversified Curricula

Music education has long been dominated by Western classical music in the United States and many other countries. However, rising cultural diversity worldwide and greater access to global cultures through the internet and social media have made curricular reform essential. In this presentation, I share my ongoing teaching and research advocating for culturally diversified music curricula. I showcase a curricular reform in the undergraduate music education program at my university. Drawing on a case study examining the impact of this reform that integrated global repertoire, incorporated project-based learning, aligned with music education courses, the findings offer valuable implications for designing culturally diversified music curricula that will revitalize music education in today’s global society.
